Big Day Out and the Australian Flag

I got up this morning and this 'issue' was all over the news. Talkback radio was busy on the topic, there are pieces in the paper, I've heard quotes from various prominent politicians. So I checked out the Big Day Out website and all I can say is How is this news or an issue? I mean it is January but still....

Look at the politicians trying to score cheap political points off the backs of music lovers!!! I mean I'm not surprised, cynically our leaders love to grab points off pretty much anything populist. Based on the BDO website ' We are not banning the Australian flag but are simply discouraging its use for anti-social purposes at the Big Day Out.'

I can see how the Australian Flag can be thrust in peoples faces or used in an aggressive nationalistic fashion (especially by people who have had a day of loud music, high temperatures and a few drinks). Isn't this kind of alienation and aggression something we should discourage? But I guess Australia Day is close and thus criticising the country is definitely off limits.
