Knowledge, learning and stalemate

What is the point of knowledge and ideas? It seems that as I am exposed to more knowledge and ideas that it just seems to open more doors and pathways. It's exciting, but also scary, how can anyone every truly understand our world/life/the universe? There is too much to know.

Given this, is knowledge a positive or negative force? Does knowing too much effectively stymie our options?

Case in point: The world has serious issues. I want to do something about it. What? Learning just seems to cause more questions to form? Macro, micro? Country, state, local level? Whose argument do I accept? What are the causes? What cascading effects will this cause? Can we change things or is it human nature to make a mess of the world? What is the point of the world anyway?

What is the point of helping our local community? Is that just self-interest, should we look beyond this?

Questions, questions, questions. This is what going back to university is doing to me. It's exciting but in some ways I think it can lead us to stalemating ourselves. Sometimes it seems as if a black and white world would be much simpler.
