Climate Change Protests

I attended the Walk against Warming yesterday and it was inspirational seeing so many people give up their afternoons to demonstrate on this issue. The message was similar to that which we have been hearing for years, we need to do something and we need to do it now. The government cannot remain deaf forever, and whether they act or not we too need to act in our own lives.

So, on that note I thought I'd suggest several things we can do in our own lives in relation to this issue (hopefully providing some momentum):

1. Change to Green Power - no more guilt about using all those technological devices in your home, it also encourages you to conserve more power as the price of power increases and you can change over without even leaving your house. Plus, most providers have differing levels of green power depending on your budget, the lowest levels are only marginal increases in your power bill.

2. Improve energy efficiency and conservation in your home - lights, stand-by and all those usual methods.

3. Public Transport and cycling - Especially in Melbourne, lots of bike tracks.

4. Spread the word - family, friends, local members etc.

Also, check out various websites and get educated, for more info check out the Australian Conservation Foundations website, they have a free climate change kit that they will send out to you if you are interested. Also, a lot of other environmental groups have large amounts of information on this issue, ie: WWF-Australia as well as various political parties, ie: Australian Democrats or the Australian Greens.

Apologies about being preachy but I think a threat like this requires it, good luck.
